Abstract
The need has become imperative to investigate the impact of education tax revenue on the development of education in Nigeria, using secondary time series data spanning from 2008 to 2017. The study employs Ordinary Least Square (OLS) technique of simple regression to analyze the impact which education tax has on the development of education using government expenditures on the sector as proxy for the development. The results indicate that education tax revenue has a positive but insignificant impact on the development of education in Nigeria. The paper therefore recommends that efforts should be made to improve on tax revenue generation to help the nation achieve the desired level of development in the education sector. Also, education tax revenue should be channeled into funding educational facilities and infrastructures to ensure rapid development of the sector.
